Program

The California EMF Program is primarily a research program examining the possible health risks, if any, of exposure to electric and magnetic fields created by the use of electricity. Other program activities involve providing education and technical assistance services to state and local government organizations, businesses, professional organizations, and members of the public. We also work with stakeholders and interested members of the public who provide input into the development of our research projects, and review draft and final versions of many of our research products and educational materials. The following descriptions provide some basic information about the activities of our Research Unit, Education and Technical Assistance Unit, and Stakeholders Advisory Consultants.

Stakeholders Advisory Consultants and Public Participation

The California EMF Program values the input of members of the general public and stakeholders in EMF debate. Our group of Stakeholders Advisory Consultants is composed of citizen activists, utility company representatives, EMF researchers, school officials, and public health, ratepayer, and environmental justice advocates. This group advises the program on the development of the research projects and on budgetary matters, and monitors our progress. Another important function of the SAC is to serve as a forum where all citizens can ask questions and express their concerns about the possibility of health effects from exposure to EMF and express their opinions about EMF policy. All SAC meetings are open to the general public. If you are interested in attending our meetings, please contact us for meeting dates, locations, and agendas.
